OK, how many home builders have used the neck and fork off a Motorcycle, AND the used the motorcycle V.I.N. to register their trike?

With my second trike (automatic) I used a Honda CB 450 front end, and the numbers were not in the computer any more, so the chp officer was able to use that number, which was very convenient. On this one, I wasn't so lucky, and it was still in the computer, so he assigned a number, and tagged the frame. I also had an aftermarket case, and he wanted to tag the crankcase, but I talked him into riveting the tag to the fan shroud, cause I didn't want him drilling for oil. LOL He's got to really trust you to do that !!! He told me to grind off the number on the neck, but I havn't done it. That's all there is to identify the front end for future parts... Was that more than ya wanted to know ? LOL

I've heard of a few guys that just take the plate off the motorcycle they used, and put it on the trike. I would never do that... besides, I wouldn't want my Trike to be considered a Honda to DMV. I think there's something special about riding a "Special Construction 3 Wheel Motorcycle" That's what they call em here in California... Ain't no appliance operator. LOL

Tennessee just requires most of the recites for the major parts along with sales recites of all parts bought out of state so ya can pay sales tax on it.. Also some kind of a form that has to be notarized, guess that it's some kind of a salvage thing..
It'll be considered Home Built whether it;s out of a box or junk yard parts..
I got a VIN # almost 8 months ago from Nashville, haven't seen the inspector yet..

Whats up with the law that went into effect in 2006. Something about EPA standards? You can only build one in a lifetime that dosen't? If you use an old bike's V.I.N. and title can you get around this?

That's kinda sorta what I'm trying to find out. The Ga. DMV site no longer has ANY info on the licensing of homebuilts or special construction vehicles......

That's a scarey thought... Better go down there and act like everythings fine, and tell em ya need all the forms to register a special construction 3 wheel motorcycle. I would imagine it's just not on the site due to the lack of numbers... Not a doubt in my mind... There so greedy here, I think you could register a cement pig. LOL

All mine in Arizona have had either Custom Built or Re Manufactured on the title and the ADOT puts their own Vin sticker on the Neck when you go down for the initial title and license work. Of course they have the inspection, etc., BS that goes with it, but its pretty simple here.

Kliff, up-here, all it takes is to have the Ga. Patrol come out and inspect it and if it runsand turnsignals and horn works, they out a vin # on it and in 3 wks. you get yer tag in the mail, it works for me, maybe ya too far south.
