Kliff wanted me to do a little thing on some paint that we are using.. It's from Tractor Supply and their oil based implement enamel. Not that I'm cheep or that good, but at $6.50 a quart and using Natpha for thinner and their hardener it's better than me using $50.00 a quart auto paint and screwing it up..and sand paper is cheep..The only thing that I splurged on was a gallon of PPG clear and their hardener @ $75.00 total, which will leave me enough left to respray my hood and top on my 14 year old Dodge Dually.. So far I have some of the torsion painted, trailing arms, backing plates, axle stubs, and fenders. Believe me this paint is very forgiving...and shines like new money..I'm spraying it with a $40.00 tool house HVLP gravity feed gun..and wet sanding it after about 5 days in the sun to dry it real good with the PPG clear. If ya have any questions just ask.. FM

Soooooooo.......are you thinning the paint, or just mixing the hardener and shooting? What ratio hardener are you using? If you're thinning the paint, what ratio are you using for that? I thought the purpose of hardener was to allow same day handling....

4 parts paint 1 part hardener..Naptha if I use their primer, If I'm using Polyester primer I use Acetone..to thin it.. Ahhhhhhhh, Pepsi bottles arn't' graduated. ;D I just adjust the gun to get it to spray the way I like it..
It do get hard the same day..I just get ham handed and spray three coats 20 minutes apart..then It takes a day or two to dry all the way through..then wet sand just to knock off the shiney with 600, then clear coat.

Went over to Harbor Freight yesterday, They had the 20oz cup HVLP gun, regularly 39.99, on sale for 19.99, and the stand on sale for 3.99.....mine now!
Right at 25.00 for both......couldn't pass it up. I just loose so much paint with the ole Binks or Marson....and that stuff ain't cheap no more.....so for 25.00, I guess I'll step into the 21st century.......

Nothing to get jealous of...sometimes I get luckey, sometimes I don't.. It's all in the clear coat. Ya can also take Rustolieum in the can and mix TS hardener with it and it'll do the same... I spent so much on the paint on the last one I refuse to do it again.. FM

Good deal..just pay attention to how much air pressure ya use...waaaay different than a pot gun... That's the reason I have to redo the fan shroud...wife bought me a fancey IR true HVLP gun for Christmas...didn't read the part about 35lb max at the gun air pressure..WOOPS!!!!! And make sure that ya let TS paint set 20 minutes before ya start shooting.. FM

paint can be an expensive pain, thats why I do my art work in testors model paint instead of useing an air brush, but, I realize I'm missing out on some cool techniques too.
