I dinked around all day making a shift linkage for the new trike..using a stock shifter out of a station wagon, the one with the pin in it.. Noticed that the shifter would go into reverse every time shifting it from first to second..bad news..can't use an EMPI shifter..because it sets too low under the seat has to be turned 180 degrees and be bent up for my hand to reach it.. Hmmmmmmm call EMPI see if I can get a custom made shifter...NOPE, won't even talk about it.. Take the shifter off and bolt shift plate to the shifter and start moving the shifter around like I was shifting.. Ahhhhhhhhhhh, now I see the problem.. The tangs that are bent up to keep shifter from going into reverse are just a tad short letting the shifter miss the lock out for reverse.. Wellllllllll out to the welder I go and weld-build up the tops of the tangs about 3/32 of an inch, grind the insides flat and reassemble the shifter...Woooooooo, problem solved... Food for thought for the guys (or gals) using stock shifters and have had the same problem.. FM ;D
